Villa
Camporbiano is a 'pievana'
(a country house with a
church (now no longer used)
attached to it) lying 8km
from the medieval town of
San Gimignano in an area
protected because of its
archaeological importance.
The villa's origins date
back to the 14th century and
it has a long and
interesting history. In the
Middle Ages it was the scene
of much political activity
when the Ardinghelli's and
their followers found refuge
in the villa after having
been expulsed from the town
of San Gimignano. A battle
took place at Camporbiano
which the Ardinghelli's won
thanks to the support they
received from Florence and
they returned to San
Gimignano.
Recently
restored with attention to
maintaining its character,
the villa has been divided
into two luxury apartments
(the apartment on the ground
floor, which has a separate
entrance and garden, is
occasionally used by the
owner who lives at San
Gimignano). The villa's
entrance is by a short
flight of terracotta steps
leading up from its private
garden and finishing in a
balcony, and there are
pleasant views of the garden
from all of its windows. It
has terracotta tiled floors
and beamed ceilings and is
furnished in traditional
style to a very high
standard. Thanks to the
owner's thoughtful touches
it has a very warm
atmosphere which makes you
feel immediately at home and
with its three lovely
bedrooms each with en-suite
luxury shower rooms Villa
Camporbiano is perfect for
larger parties.
The
swimming pool (9.5m x 4.5m),
furnished with sun
recliners and
reclining armchairs, is
situated in the beautiful
garden with mature trees and
bushes, and is reserved for
the use of guests renting
Villa Camporbiano and the
very occasional use of the
owner. There is a garden
table and chairs for eating
outside and a barbecue.
Parking is next to the villa
in its private grounds.
Villa Camporbiano also has a
private fully equipped
garden golf course (100m x
45m), its own lake with
ducks and a wood where you
will find a table and
benches under the pine tress
and a large cage of
colourful ornamental birds.
Nearby,
within a short drive, there
are several excellent family
run trattorias, the
Castelfalfi golf course and
San Vivaldo where you will
find, 'Jerusalem in
Tuscany', a medieval
reproduction of the
sanctuaries of Jerusalem.
20km away is the town of
Poggibonsi with rail and
road links to Florence and
Siena whilst also nearby is
Certaldo with its
interesting medieval
quarter, supermarket, shops
and railway station.
