Large bedroom |
| This spacious apartment is on the second floor of a
medieval palazzo which in the 13th and 14th centuries was part of the Convent of
Sant'Agostino. It has its entrance in the beautiful Piazza Sant'Agostino and enjoys
wonderful views of the medieval city and the countryside. It has been lovingly restored by
its current owners, the Marrucci family, who have paid attention not only to maintaining
its character, but also to uncovering and restoring its ancient past as can be seen by the
niches and alcoves that have been found and preserved, the three little pigeon windows in
the gallery bedroom and most of all, by the fresco, a religious painting of circa 1300,
which is in the living room. The living room has three windows looking out across the
rooftops of the medieval town. The last photograph in the picture gallery was taken from
one of these windows, you can see the Church of San Pietro with its round stained glass
window, the Piazza Sant'Agostino with its 13th century well, the Church of Sant'Agostino
and in the distance the surrounding verdant countryside. In the Church of Sant'Agostino,
rich with works of art, you may enjoy the marvellous frescoes of Benozzo Gozzoli and the
tranquility of the convent's rose coloured cloister. The Piazza Sant'Agostino offers three
art galleries, one of which is the studio of the sculptor Marco di Piazza; here you can
enjoy his garden exhibition of sculptures whilst in the church you will find his fine
bass-relief travertine altar. |
| The apartment is bright and spacious. It is very
comfortably furnished to a high standard in traditional Tuscan style with lots of
thoughtful touches giving it a warm atmosphere. All its windows enjoy splendid views
across the rooftops of the medieval town. As illustrated in the picture gallery one of the
large bedrooms has a window stretching the length of one wall which when opened gives the
feeling of being on a balcony; here you can lie in bed and look up at the city's towers.
The other two bedrooms both enjoy beautiful views, one of the countryside and one of the
town as illustrated above. |
