This charming house is ideally situated in the
countryside within a short walk (300 metres) of the "Porta San Matteo" entrance
into the medieval town of San Gimignano where you will find lots of shops and restaurants
as well as many historic monuments. 10kms away is the town of Poggibonsi where there is an
entrance to the Florence/Siena motorway. The owners live next door in their farmhouse and
whilst being helpful and friendly will not intrude on your privacy. La Doccia was
originally a barn which they have very recently converted with great care and attention to
detail to offer very comfortable accommodation. It has terracotta tiled floors and beamed
ceilings and is fitted and furnished to a very high standard in traditional Tuscan
style. The windows of its bedrooms, which look out over countryside, still have the
charming slanted bricks original to the barn whilst the arched ground floor windows also
enjoy very pleasant views. In the sitting room and in one of the bedrooms there are very
large arched frosted glass windows which make the rooms very light but give privacy and
protection against the heat of the sun. The house takes its name from the "doccia" a
spring dating back to the 13th century which is along the country road below the house.
Next to the house the owner has a vineyard and an olive grove from which he produces his
own wine and olive oil. A few steps away from the glass entrance doors to the
kitchen/dining room the house has its own garden with grass lawn and olive trees. From the
garden, which is hidden by a hedge to give you privacy, you can see the bell tower of the
Church of Sant Agostino in the medieval town of San Gimignano. In the garden there is a
patio with table and chairs for eating outside under a pergola and there are sun loungers
and a barbecue. A few steps away there is a new swimming pool (14m x 7m) which is reserved
for the use of guests renting La Doccia and the owner. The pool is surrounded by a grass
lawn and olive trees and enjoys a fine view of the countryside. The grounds surrounding La
Doccia and the owner's house are enclosed with access by electric gate. Covered parking is
next to La Doccia in the enclosed grounds. |
