Villa Santa Maria lies next to a vineyard in a tranquil and convenient position in the countryside equidistant (6kms) from the medieval walled town of San Gimignano famous for its beautiful towers, and the town of Certaldo with its hilltop medieval quarter, birthplace of the famous poet Boccaccio and home of the important "Mercantia" craft fair. Only ten minutes drive away is the modern town of Poggibonsi with its entrance to the Florence/Siena motorway. There are fine views of the countryside and only a minute's walk away there is an excellent restaurant with a bar and a terrace for alfresco dining.

There are a total of three apartments, Il Corbezzolo and La Mimosa which are both on the ground floor of the villa and the apartment above where the owner and his family live; you will find them friendly and helpful whilst not intruding on your privacy. With care and much attention to detail they have very recently converted and furnished both apartments to a high standard. The apartments take their names from two flowering trees which are very common in the area and examples of which are to be found in the villa's grounds. Il corbezzolo (strawberry tree) is found mainly in wooded areas whilst la mimosa is a domestic tree which flowers in early March. It is a tradition in Italy for men to give a sprig of its beauitful yellow blossoms to all the women in their life on lady's day the 8th March.

Each apartment has its own private terrace enjoying a pleasant view of the countryside. There is a new swimming pool (9.8m x 4.5m) furnished with sunbeds and sun umbrellas. It is surrounded by olive trees and enjoys a beautiful view of the undulating countryside; in the distance one can see the town of Certaldo and its hilltop medieval quarter against a backdrop of the Appenine mountains. There is a laundry room with washing machine for the use of the two apartments and each apartment has its own barbecue. Parking is in the grounds close to the apartments.

Apt. Il Corbezzolo is a delightful apartment furnished to a high standard in classic Tuscan style. The living room has large glass doors opening on to the apartment's private terrace. The double bedroom has a glass door opening on to a small courtyard which is also overlooked by the window of the bedroom with two single beds. The private terrace enjoying a pleasant view of the countryside is furnished for eating outside with table, chairs, barbecue and sun umbrella. There is plenty of space for relaxing around the swimming pool from where you can enjoy a fine panorama.

Private terrace with entrance leading into living room with fully equipped kitchen with hob (four gas rings), small electric oven, fridge, dishwasher, dining area with table and chairs, sitting area with settee, armchair and satellite television; bedroom with two single beds (which on request will be made into a double bed); bedroom with double bed and spacious shower room with shower cubicle, basin, w.c. and bidet. An extra person may be accommodated in the living room where the settee converts to a bed, or if requested an extra bed will be placed in the double bedroom. Use of washing machine. Central heating.
