La Buca di Montauto dates back to the 1800's and is thought to have ancient
Etruscan origins. It is a lovely estate with 11 hectares of land, and being
a working farm there are vineyards, olive groves and an interesting wild
boar rearing activity. Although immersed in the Tuscan countryside. La Buca
di Montauto is just 2.2 km from the medieval town of San Gimignano and there
are lovely views from the estate both of San Gimignano on the horizon and
the picturesque Montauto hilltop hamlet nearby.
In the main farmhouse reside the owners and their family,
and across the courtyard an adjacent farm building has been lovingly
restored into two very nicely renovated apartments (Giada described here and
Turchese) and two rooms. All the accommodation is on the ground floor and
each apartment has a front and rear terrace area for relaxing and dining al
fresco. Much care has been taken with the renovation, the furnishings and
fittings are of a high standard and the apartments are very welcoming and
homely as the owners have paid much attention to detail and added many
personal touches. |

Giada is comfortably
fitted apartment in lovely Tuscan style with pale green pastel
furnishings, contrasting with typical terracotta floors and wooden
beamed ceilings. From the living room the patio door leads onto the
apartment's terrace area which is furnished with table and chairs
for dining outside and partially divided from the adjacent
apartment's terrace areas by a trellis with climbing plants and
flowers. The characteristic bedroom also opens onto a rear communal
terrace where there is a barbecue for guests' use.
The estate is filled with flowers and at the rear
of the owners farmhouse in a sunny position is the lovely swimming
pool (14m x 6m). Furnished with sun recliners
and sun umbrellas it is an ideal spot for relaxing and enjoying a
cooling dip. The owners, Antonella, Mauro and Giada are friendly and
helpful and happy to show you their locally made produce of wild
boar ham, sausages and salami, which you can purchase directly from
the estate along with their local wine and olive oil. They also sell
their local produce at their lovely delicatessen shop in the main
street of San Gimignano.
La Buca di Montauto is ideally situated to explore
the local area. There are lovely walks all around the estate,
medieval San Gimignano and its shops, restaurants, and historic
monuments is only 10 minutes drive away, and it's easy to discover
the rest of Tuscany's delightful towns such as Siena and Florence
via the road and rail links at Poggibonsi just 13 kms away.
The apartments, (Giada described above and
Turchese) are ideal for larger parties or a large family
travelling together as they have a communicating door between the
two and can sleep up to 8 persons. There is 10%
discount off the basic price if both apartments are taken
together, and it is possible to request the two separate
bedrooms also in the restored farm building to accommodate any
further persons.

PARKING
in San Gimignano: The parking in San Gimignano is all round the
historic centre (access to the historic centre is for residents only). Residents cannot
park in town unless they have their own private parking space. They also have to park
outside the town. Most of the public parking is in pay car parks. These charge by the hour
and are quite expensive. We are able to offer you to park in a private car park at
the price of Euro 25 per week. The use of this car park is not obligatory. If you
decide not to use this car park, you will not have to pay this parking fee. There is free
car parking on the outskirts of the town. You will need to watch the signs carefully as
parking is restricted or not allowed at certain times (e.g road cleaning, local markets,
school pick up times etc). These parking areas are further from the property you are
renting (approx 10 - 15 mins walk) than the private car park we are offering you. Let
us know at the time of reservation if you would like a space in the private car park. The
fee of 25 Euros will be payable locally to the owner of the car park. |
