Le Colonne is a beautiful farmhouse on a small wine and olive oil producing estate, which has been recently restored and now forms three spacious apartments, one of which is the owner's second home, the other two No 8 San Matteo and No 9 San Giovanni which he rents. There are fantastic views from all sides of the house, with the towers of San Gimignano in front and the beautiful Elsa valley to the side. Just off the road from San Gimignano to Certaldo, the farmhouse is only 900m from the San Matteo gateway into medieval San Gimignano 'the city of towers' making it the perfect location for exploring the town's craft shops, historic monuments and famous piazzas. There are a selection of restaurants within walking distance and the nearest general food shop is only 500m away.

San Giovanni, aptly named after one of the ancient gateways to the town, is a luminous apartment on the first floor of Le Colonne farmhouse and has its entrance by outside staircase leading up from the garden. It enjoys spectacular views of the towers of San Gimignano from its living room front window, whilst the side window and the bedroom windows both look over the lovely Elsa valley dotted with vineyards and olive groves. The apartment is pleasantly furnished in country style, the new kitchen and satellite television provide the modern comforts whilst the addition of family heirlooms and some turn of the century pieces, carefully chosen by the owner, ensure the original character of the house is retained. It has its own garden area in the grounds which is furnished with table and chairs for dining outside or just relaxing whilst enjoying the view, and sipping a glass of San Gimignano's famous Vernaccia white wine, which the estate also produces. The lovely grounds which are immaculately maintained and full of plants and flowers, look towards the medieval towers of the town and beyond are surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. There are sun reclining chairs and a barbecue and parking is in the grounds next to the house.

There is a public swimming pool at Santa Lucia only 3km from the town and Castelfalfi and its international golf course and hill top open air swimming pool is less than half an hours drive. For those wishing to go further a field, the train and road links at Poggibonsi just 12km down the road make Tuscany's famous sights easily accessible.

PARKING in San Gimignano: The parking in San Gimignano is all round the historic centre (access to the historic centre is for residents only). Residents cannot park in town unless they have their own private parking space. They also have to park outside the town. Most of the public parking is in pay car parks. These charge by the hour and are quite expensive. We are able to offer you to park in a private car park at the price of Euro 25 per week. The use of this car park is not obligatory. If you decide not to use this car park, you will not have to pay this parking fee. There is free car parking on the outskirts of the town. You will need to watch the signs carefully as parking is restricted or not allowed at certain times (e.g road cleaning, local markets, school pick up times etc). These parking areas are further from the property you are renting (approx 10 - 15 mins walk) than the private car park we are offering you. Let us know at the time of reservation if you would like a space in the private car park. The fee of 25 Euros will be payable locally to the owner of the car park.
