Il Belvedere is a lovely cottage situated in the countryside just
1.5km from the town of San Gimignano famous for its medieval towers.
Il Belvedere means ‘the beautiful view’. The cottage is in fact
named after the spectacular view it enjoys over the olive groves to
the valley beyond, dotted picturesquely with distant farmhouses and
patchwork fields of vineyards and sunflowers. With a view so
unspoilt it is hard to imagine the town of San Gimignano with its
craft shops, restaurants and historic monuments is such a short
distance away.
Il Belvedere, originally a farm building, has very recently been
fully restored by its attentive owners and now forms a lovely
detached ground floor cottage. The owners who live in a separate
house behind the cottage are friendly and helpful whilst not
intruding on your privacy. Furnished to a high standard in classic
Tuscan country style, Il Belvedere has a comfortable living room
with dining area, lounge area and fully equipped kitchen area, and
there are two lovely bedrooms, each with en-suite
shower rooms. The bedrooms as well as the living room have glass
patio doors opening onto the large garden terrace. In the garden
which has a lawn and is full of plants and flowers there is a
majestic fig tree, a giant cactus and a silvery olive tree all
framing the background of the valley below. The garden is furnished
with a gazebo and table and chairs for dining al fresco and there
are sun chairs for relaxing whilst
enjoying the beautiful panorama.
Il Belvedere is a lovely location from which to explore San
Gimignano and the surrounding hilltop villages, whilst the famous
towns of Florence and Siena are easily accessible via the road, rail
and bus links at nearby Poggibonsi just 11km away.
